In the year 2016, the Government of Delhi introduced a policy regarding solar energy consumption that is “Delhi Solar Policy”. This policy has proved to be a boon for a rooftop solar energy system in Delhi. The main aim of this policy is to help Delhi earn the title of the solar city. It has a target to achieve 1000 Megawatt power by 2020. This policy is a revolutionary step in the solar energy sector.
The government along with the companies involved in the solar panel installation are working together to give you an amazing experience of a solar roof. The electricity distribution in Delhi is mainly handled by three companies BSES Rajdhani Power Limited, BSES Yamuna Power Limited, Tata Power Delhi Distribution Limited. They hold 51% of total share of power distribution.
The Delhi solar policy has some amazing incentives for you. This policy states that you can avail the loan for the installation of solar panels from any nationalized banks. It encourages net-metering, which utilizes maximum rooftop area and hence, enhancing power generation and reducing your electricity bill. The more power it generates the less will be the number in your electricity bill. This policy exempts you from Cess and electricity tax.
If you are opting for residential solar panel system then you are exempted from paying the conversion charges.
The conversion charges are those charges, which are imposed when house tax is converted into the commercial tax. The solar electricity consumed or generated within Delhi is exempted from the transmission, banking, and wheeling charges.
Apart from all this, a subsidy of 30% is given on the solar panel installation. If you are opting for a 5 kW plant it will generate 7,000 units of electricity per year and the cost of one unit is currently, 10.25 in Delhi.
Hence, the cost of 7,000 units will be INR 71,750. The total cost of installation is 2.5 lacs and this cost will be recovered in a period of 3 years and 4 months. After, this period your electricity will be free so, enjoy as much as you want without making a dent in your wallet.
