Frequently Asked Questions
Solar panels absorb the sun’s energy throughout the day and convert it into direct current (DC) electricity. Most homes and businesses run on alternating current (AC) electricity, so the DC electricity is then passed through an inverter to convert it to usable AC electricity. It is then supplied to your house for use.
In a rooftop solar system, the solar panels can be set up on the roof of any residential, commercial, institutional or industrial building. This can be of two types:
- Grid connected rooftop solar system.
- Rooftop solar system with storage facility using battery.
In this setup, the solar panel system is connected to the local electric grid. This serves two purposes:
- If your solar panels produce more electricity than you need, the excess is transferred to the grid and you can sell these extra units to the government.
- If you need more electricity than what is produced by your solar panels, the system will draw the power from the grid.
Such systems are usually for places with no/poor grid connectivity. In this case, the rooftop systems have batteries for storage, which allows self-reliance for electricity i.e. you only use the units produced by your solar panel system. The excess electricity is stored in the battery and can be utilized at night or when your electricity requirement increases.
There is no particular difference in the efficiencies of the two systems. However, the costs associated with the off-grid system are significantly higher. Moreover, there is more flexibility with the on-grid system as you can always use more units than your solar panels produce. In contrast, under the off-grid system you will only be able to use the energy produced by your solar panels.
A solar cell, also known as a photovoltaic cell, is an electrical device that converts the energy of sunlight into electricity by the photovoltaic effect.
Solar panels continue to work regardless of a power outage, however, your system will be disconnected for the outage period for safety reasons.
Your solar panels come with a power warranty of 25 years and will continuously generate electricity as long as they receive sunlight. Unlike the other sources of non-renewable energy, such as coal, which face the risk of depletion, solar energy has the certainty of lasting as long as the sun shines and does not experience the uncertainties of supply as in the case of water for hydro-electricity.
The extra units will be transferred to the grid and you can sell them to the government. For example: If your 5KW panels have produced 660 units of electricity for the month but you have used only 600 units, you can sell the extra 60 units to the government.
Your solar panel system will draw power from the grid and you can use electricity in the same way you have been using electricity until now and you will be charged by your electricity supplier for the number of units drawn from the grid.

In addition, you can avail our Oakridge Energy consultancy services through which our expert engineers will visit your premises, conduct a detailed study and personally discuss the different options available to you.
For the minimum 5 KW setup you will need 500 sq. ft area plus 100 sq. ft. for every additional 1 KW. In addition, solar panels can also be set up on the ground.
Oakridge Energy is amongst the largest rooftop solar installers in Delhi-NCR region. We are one of the early entrants in this field and have already commissioned rooftop solar projects of more than 1000 KW. We are empanelled with the Government of India and are authorised to install all kinds of solar electricity generation systems across the country. We have a rooted understanding of the industry and have undertaken large scale projects such as the 5MW plant in Bihar.
When you install a solar energy system on your property, you save money on your electricity bills and protect yourself against rising electricity rates and power failure in the future. How much you can save depends on the utility rates and subsidies you are entitled to, but going solar is a smart investment regardless of where you live.
|Capacity||Rooftop Space||Annual Savings|
|5 KW||500 sq. ft.||60,000|
|10 KW||1000 sq. ft.||1,20,000|
|15 KW||1500 sq. ft.||1,80,000|
|20 KW||2000 sq. ft.||2,40,000|
|25 KW||2500 sq. ft.||3,00,000|
Since we install a minimum of 5 KW it will cost at least Rs. 3,25,500 plus Rs. 65,100 for every additional KW installed. However there is a subsidy of Rs. 17,000 per KW for residential and not for profit organisation (Tax. Excl.)
A 1KW capacity produces 4-5 units per day. So at 5KW installation your solar panels will produce approximately 22 units per day or 7000 units per year.
Solar panel systems are made of durable tempered glass and require little to no maintenance for the 25 plus years that they will generate power. If something does happen, the equipment manufacturer includes long warranty periods.
We will need the following:
- Proof of identification: Driving License/Passport/Voter ID
- Copy of Aadhar Card with signature.
- Previous electricity bills.
- Rooftop rights: for permission to install solar panels.
- PAN number
- 2 Passport Size Photographs.
Solar panels come with a 25 year warranty on power generation.
“Department of Financial services has instructed to all Public Sector Banks to encourage home loan/home improvement loan seekers to install rooftop solar PV plants and include cost of system in their home loan proposals. So far, nine PSBs namely Bank of India, Syndicate Bank, State Bank of India, Dena Bank , Central Bank of India, Punjab National Bank, Allahabad Bank, Indian Bank and Indian Overseas Bank have given instructions to extend loan for grid interactive rooftop solar PV plants as home loan/ home improvement loan.” – MNRE website
Your solar panels do not need much maintenance. Occasionally, you could clean them with a wet cloth to ensure that there is no dust on the surface of the panels.
Yes. We provide a free Annual Maintenance Contract (AMC) for the first 5 year period after your installation date for residential/not for profit organisations. At the end of 5 years, you can renew the AMC for at a nominal fees.
We use high quality metal structures to support your solar panels that are galvanized in order to eliminate the risk of rusting. Moreover, our engineers use advanced technologies in the designing and construction process which ensures structural stability and durability.
Solar panels are made of tempered glass and are designed to withstand weights of upto 80 kgs. In addition, the temperature of solar panels reach to almost 60° C during the day which is hot enough to deter monkeys from touching them.
Yes. Your solar panels are designed to withstand wind speeds of upto 120 mph, so an average wind storm will not affect them. In addition, the tempered glass will protect the panels from hail storms and heavy rains.
No, there is no risk of electrocution from the solar panel system. However, one may get electrocuted by the wires and cables, but the chances of this are low as we use high quality wires with sufficient insulation.
Yes. Our company has liaised with banks to ensure that you can receive the most convenient loan/financing plan based on your requirements.
A solar meter calculates the number of units of electricity that have been produced by your solar panels.
A net meter measures the difference between the units of electricity used from the grid and the units generated by your solar panels. At the end of each month, you will be charged on the number of units recorded on the net meter by your local provider.
We will install the solar meter as part of our process. However, the net meter will be installed by the local electricity authority as it has to be connected to the grid. We will undertake all the paperwork and registration for this purpose on your behalf while you relax.
